why Google sold Motorola to Lenovo?

Its just nearly a month back Google sold its mobile manufacturer Motorola to the PC and Smartphone maker Lenovo for $2.91 billion. With smartphones like Moto G and Moto X being such a big hit in the market for a while, what is the reason behind Google selling Motorola.

Here are the 5 reasons why Google sold Motorola.

1. Google's mobile strategy is to get Android onto as many phones as possible, as almost all of the company's revenue comes from advertising, including on mobile devices. This is very different from Apple, BlackBerry, and Microsoft, which are all now integrated hardware-software businesses.

2. Google wanted Motorola for the patents, not for the manufacturing. Apple's patent attack on Android licensees was slowing down and worrying Google's customers. Motorola had a massive patent library that can be used defensively.

3. Once Google bought Motorola, some of its major licensees started hedging their bets and developing or buying their own non-Google OSes: Samsung with Tizen and LG with WebOS, for instance. They were worried Google would compete directly with them.

4. Motorola never made Google any money even though Moto G is a big success.

5. By ditching Motorola, Google can be a neutral, honest broker of operating systems to the world and make money doing so.

Here are 2 main reasons why Lenovo bought Motorola from Google.

1. Lenovo is one of the world's top five smartphone makers, but its market share in the U.S., one of the world's largest smartphone markets, is zero. Motorola has an 85-year history in the U.S. and, at this point, pretty poor distribution elsewhere.

2. The company's biggest business is still PCs, and it's
the world's No. 1 PC maker. But PC sales aren't growing. If Lenovo is going to be a technology leader in the late 2010's, it needs to be a mobile tech leader. Assembling a global smartphone business is key.

Headphone X - a virtual surround sound system for headphones

dts headphone x logo

DTS demonstrated its new Headphone:X surround processing system at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month. The system is capable of reproducing up to 11 channels of surround sound over conventional stereo headphones. People at the show who heard the Headphone:X demo came away impressed with its ability to project a sound field well outside the confines of the headphones. DTS is promoting Headphone:X technology as HTiP -- Home Theater in Pocket, and claims that the system can emulate the DTS reference listening room or a professional Hollywood mixing stage.
For Headphone:X to work, the program material must be DTS-HD encoded, so Dolby-encoded films, music, TV shows, and games may not be compatible with it.

As of now, users have the opportunity to feel this technology by downloading an app called z+ music available at both android play store as well as ios app store. This app holds a sample music clip of Superman- man of steel which demos this product.

The actual product will be out in the market by the end of this year says team headphone X from DTS.

Have a look at this video, what people have to say about this master piece from DTS.

I will be back with more stuff from Headphone X and more.

PHONE BLOCKS

Before moving on to the actual article i salute DAVE HAKKENS the designer of the concept called phone blocks for his excellent imagination which i hope can soon be reality.

current scenario of smartphone

Everyday we throw away millions of electronic devices, because they get old and become worn out. But usually it's only one of the components that causes the problem. The rest of the device works fine but is needlessly thrown away. Simple because electronic devices are not designed to last. This makes electronic waste one of the fastest growing waste streams in the world. And our phone is one of the biggest causes.

The concept

So this is a new kind of phone. It's made of blocks. Detachable blocks. They're all connected to the base, and the base connects everything together. Electrical signals are transferred through the pins, and two small screws lock everything in place. So if for instance your phone is getting a little slow, you could just upgrade the block that affects the speed. Or if something breaks you can easily replace it with a new one, or update it with the newest version. This needs a special standard for interconnecting all different components on the base block, this has to be setup and its not a difficult task.

Another great thing about this is, that you can customize your phone. So lets say this is your phone and you do everything in the cloud. Why not replace your storage block for a bigger battery block. If you are like this guy and love to take pictures, why not upgrade your camera? Or if you don't care about any of this stuff you can keep it simple a get a bigger speaker. You can choose the blocks you want, support the brands you like, or even develop your own blocks. Phoneblocks is built on a open platform by companies working together to create the best phone in the world.

To set up this platform they need to get the right companies and the right people involved. This will only get started if there is a lot interest in a phone worth keeping.
So this is the plan.
To show that there is a interest for this phone we need your voice. You can donate your social reach on the website. They gather as much people as possible. On the 29th of October they send out the blast. All at the same time. Spreading all your voices, to show the world, there is a need for a phone worth keeping. The more people involved, the bigger the impact.

Please visit Phoneblocks.com to raise your voice and spread the word.

Phoneblocks, a phone worth keeping.
